An Alternative Gift List

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

alternative-gift-list.gifGift lists are always a good thing to set up when you have a special occasion coming up. Apart from making sure you get something you actually want, they make it so much easier for the people buying the presents –people are likely to thank you by getting you a better gift for taking the hassle of traipsing round the shops. But gift lists are only a great idea if you know what you want! I know loads of people that genuinely can’t think of anything they need!

Well I found a great solution for all concerned. The person who is celebrating can set up a list of charitable gifts at The Alternative Gift List. Here they have a chance to list various charities and tangible gifts for each charity that can be bought on their behalf, such as 200 condoms for the Terrance Higgins Aids Trust. Don’t worry no-one has to suffer weird looks in their local Boots – the gift giver just makes the donation and the charity buy the condoms for you and send them to where they are needed. Other gifts include Physiotherapy for 2 polio and civil war victims for one month or a clef lip palate operation. Gifts on the list range from about 10 – £200 pounds check out an example gift list here.

Golf Ball Cleaner

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

Golf Ball CleanerIf you’re really stuck for something to get your dad this Father’s Day and he’s into golf then you could get him this golf ball cleaner from Next. Ok so it’s not the greatest gift you could give your dad but let’s face it, they’re really hard people to buy for so at least this is a practical gift that he will probably get a lot of use out of.

All you need to do is insert any standard size golf ball into the transparent plastic area and place the top on, the motorised bristles will then clean off any dirt and your dad can’t blame his dirty golf balls for his bad round! The cleaner can be filled with water and washing up liquid to really get the balls sparkling clean.

This golf ball cleaner costs £13 and is available on the Next website.

I know mine would and now there’s a possibility that he might since they are currently offering the day out for £175. After 4 laps in the Lotus they will take the wheel of the Ferrari.

Once in the Ferrari 360 the driver will get 4 laps to test the power of this fantastic racing car. This once in a lifetime gift is available at and you will need to order before Tuesday June 12 to ensure your dad receives his voucher before Father’s Day.

Water Bomb Launcher

Monday, June 4th, 2007

Water Bomb LauncherIs your dad a bit of a big kid? If so then this could be the ideal Father’s Day present. It is a water bomb launcher that slings the balloon 120 feet into the air and this can be achieved by just one person. Imagine the scene in the garden if you had a few of these, adults rolling around the floor trying to launch their water bombs first. Summer is on its way and if your dad is into BBQ’s with his friends then this could make one hilarious afternoon. It looks like quite good exercise as well!

The launcher made by WildSling and costs just £11.95, about 150 balloons are also included with the set. Available at Prezzybox.

Your Life in Hardback

Monday, June 4th, 2007

photobookandclosedtin.jpgI’ve seen a lot of adverts around for personalised photo books recently. I think they are a great modern take on the photo album. The idea is that you send in a selection of your favourite snaps and they are turned into a classy coffee table book. The books are hard backed and properly bound. They are made using high quality paper and the photos are treated for red eye, date stamp removal and are restored to ensure they look like they are straight from a publishers printing house.

The books even come in a personalised presentation box or tin. These books are a wonderful idea to celebrate an important life event such as a wedding or christening. I think they would be a great gift to give to someone on returning from a holiday, a book displaying what you got up to is so much better than a postcard or a tacky souvenir. They start at £49 for an A5 sized book and you can order one from

Togs for Dogs Day

Monday, June 4th, 2007

doggy-dress.jpgThis might seem like a bit of a strange day to mark in your diary, but if you own a dog and like making it look cute this day might be something you want to celebrate. Before you stop reading because you think this is a ridiculous waste of time, I’d just like to point out that there is a purpose behind all this. The day was created to educate and raise awareness about deaf communication tactics and the use of aide dogs for hearing – they’re not just for the blind you know!

Ok so the day is really aimed at children but can be just as fun for adults – trust me – However, you better drag some kids along to take part too so you don’t look completely insane. You can send off for an activity pack – the Adults pack includes some interesting stuff such as a “learning to sign” guide. Or you can gather together a group of children to take part in the games included in the Kids packs, such as designing and making an outfit for hearing dogs to be entered into a competition. You can make a donation or raise money through the activities you take part in. It is a great way to learn more about ways the hard of hearing can be aided by man’s best friend. Visit the Hearing Dogs website here.
