National Epilepsy Week
Monday, May 21st, 2007
It’s also national epilepsy week this week. Each year the week has a special focus and this year it is ‘epilepsy and employment’. The week aims to raise awareness of the condition amongst employers and ensure sufferers are given a fair opportunity in the recruitment process and at work.
Epilepsy Action suggests that we can help the cause in a number of ways; We can ask our MP to raise the issue in parliament. So far Chris McCafferty MP has presented an Early Day Motion in parliament. This is a sort of petition which members of parliament sign to show their support of a cause or issue. They suggest that we should ask our MP to sign this motion by writing to him or her.
We can also attend one of Epilepsy Action’s Local Branch Days held at shopping centres and libraries to find out more about eplipsy. This week if you are in Scotland you can take part in a fundraising walk or check out the events page for more fundraising activities later in the year all around the UK.

Its April foo’ls day today and I’d love to know if any of you played any tricks or if someone got you really good. I am ashamed to say that I am a complete April fool and it was my Mum that got me this year. She’s a bit of a professional so I really should have seen it coming but she had planned it so well that I didn’t tweak. My Mum is friends with the owner of the letting agent that I rent my flat through and they teamed up to wickedly plot against me and my boyfriend.
It’s that time of year again where we all get together and help those less fortunate through Comic Relief. I love Comic Relief, I make sure I have my red nose then sit in watching BBC1 and attempt to stay up until 3am; I don’t think I’ve quite managed it yet though. This year Davina McCall, Chris Evans and other celeb presenters will be hosting the event so make sure you watch and give lots of money! Oh and yes, Peter Kay will be making another musical appearance!
Today is March 14th, an official no smoking day and I wonder how many smokers will actually attempt to kick the habit. I also wonder how many will be rushing out on their morning break to get their quick fix and thinking “Well I lasted 2 hours, better than last year”.
